“Our congregation, diverse in age groups and interests, is growing – so, too, are the ministries we offer. The “Building Faith, Changing Lives, Sharing Christ” capital campaign is too large for any one of us. It is too large for all of us put together. No effort, however, is too large for God. What anticipation knowing He plans to do even greater work in the years to come!”

- Lyn Smith

Overcoming the Challenges
First Presbyterian possesses a vision for being “an inter-generational Christian family.” First Presbyterian enjoys a reputation of offering to God the very best reformed worship. Today, our vision fully includes the necessity of including men, women, youth and children; Christians and seekers of all ages into the ministry of the church.

The need for the physical development of First Presbyterian Church is revealed in the inadequacy of the eight buildings on site and as a result of our vulnerability to flooding.

  • Education wing rooms are cramped and can not be enlarged

  • Fellowship Hall is stretched to capacity

  • Materials used in the original construction are dated and the
    building’s appearance is not inviting

In the Hurricanes of 2004, the facilities were overwhelmed with two to four feet of water in every building. The damage was well over a million dollars not considering the lost opportunities and resources that were diverted for repair and recovery efforts.
